YSR puts Telengana issue in perspective – gives a conditional OK

If ever one needed proof of YSR Reddy’s nervousness regarding the coming polls, it was provided in ample measure during the last minutes of yesterday’s session. Unable to withstand the intense pressure on the Telengana statehood issue both from within his own party members and the mahakutami, the CM yesterday said that he had no objection to agree to an issue of separate Telengana as long as there was consensus on the various questions raised on that front. The CM said he is setting up a separate committee to address the issue of safety of minorities, and to examine the demands for further separation that were raised form the sections of Rayalaseema and Uttar Andhra. The CM also raised a valid point while expressing the concern of the people who said that they settled in Hyderabad because it was the capital of A P and not the capital of Telengana. While YSR said nothing new, the opposition parties particularly the TRS started attributing sinister motives to the issue. The CM though dismissed them as political gimmicks and said that he had no personal objection against Telengana as long as these issues were addressed.
