A jittery CM talks about liquor prohibition

Chandrababu Naidu clearly seems to have the Congress on the back foot. The ruling party’s plan of using the “Heritage scam” to crank up the heat on the TDP has misfired. Instead Chandrababu Naidu has launched a scathing attack on the C M’s “Abhaya Hastha” scheme. He ridiculed the scheme saying that the Congress government gives the women folk pension and uses cheap liquor to take away money and health from the men folk. A stunned C M went on the defensive and said his government was seriously considering a sanction of Rs. 10 crores for “educating the public on the evils of alcohol abuse.” In an apparent face saving gesture Dr YSR Reddy observed that alcohol abuse is a social evil and creating awareness is the proven way to eradicate the evil. The TDP and the other opposition parties were quick to pounce on the C M’s volte face and said that a confused Congress leadership has begun to show signs of cracking under the weight of its own promises.
