Do not take PR lightly: MSR

RAJAHMUNDRY: APSRTC Chairman and Congress senior leader M. Satyanarayana Rao has advised his party leaders, including Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, not to take TDP or the new-born Praja Rajyam (PR) lightly in the coming elections.
Cakewalk

Speaking to media persons on Sunday here, he reminded that the PR had won Allagadda ZPTC election just two days ago which indicated that the ruling party should not presume next elections would be a cakewalk.

When a reporter recalled the statement of the Chief Minister that Congress will win 230 Assembly seats and around 30 MP seats, Mr. Rao replied that there was nothing wrong in expressing that much confidence as his welfare schemes reached every poor man’s house in the State. “But it should not grow into overconfidence,” he cautioned.

Reacting to resignation of two Cabinet Ministers, the RTC Chairman said that on moral grounds, one should take responsibility. He recalled he also resigned when he lost the Lok Sabha election from Karimnagar.

When the matter of grand alliance between TDP, Left and TRS was brought to his notice, Mr. Rao reacted in his typical style saying, “let us see what happens after Sankranti. No one knows what will happen in future.” He hoped there still were chances of an alliance between TRS and Congress.
Viewpoint

Asked about his suggestion of not giving tickets to people who crossed 72 years, he said he still held that viewpoint. “If it comes into force, I will be the first to forego my ticket and Pranab Mukharjee, Antulay and so many others at Centre and State could follow suit.”

Mr. Rao is here to participate in ‘Velama Garjana’.
