Guard fires in air; Cong leaders clash

HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed at a Congress rally in Kushaiguda when a private

security guard of a local leader suddenly fired in the air on
Sunday morning.

As part of the Congress Sankhsema Utsavalu, several local leaders along with their supporters participated in a rally at Kushaiguda. When the rally reached Easwarpuri Colony at around 11 am, supporters of B Raji Reddy, former chairman of the Kapra municipality, and another local leader, R Laxma Reddy, started raising provocative slogans against each other. Members of both the groups rushed towards each other.

Laxma Reddy's personal security guard Teertharaj Dubey fired one round in the air from his licensed revolver. "With Dubey firing, the situation became serious and a scuffle erupted between members of the two groups," Kushaiguda inspector of police K Venkata Reddy said.

Police immediately separated both the groups and brought the situation under control.

According to police, two months ago Laxma Reddy hired Teertaraj Dubey from Columbia Security Services of Tolichowki. Dubey, a native of Uttar Pradesh, has a licensed revolver with national permit.

"Dubey stays at Laxma Reddy's house on Street Number 8, Habsiguda. As per Laxma Reddy's claims and rules, the details of the weapon have been given to the Osmania University police. We have to verify with the OU police," Venkata Reddy said.

Cases have been registered under the Arms Act against the security guard.
