The YSR government’s advertorial style campaigns have evoked a sharp criticism from Chandrarbabu Naidu’s grand alliance comprising the TDP, TR and the left parties. Chandrababu observed that the ruling party is passing off advertising hype as news. He raised a strong objection to the manner in which the government was using public funds to publicize and further its own cause. He asked for an explanation as to why a newspaper like Sakshi which was not rated by the ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulation) was being patronized with huge advertisement outlays from the ruling party. They also objected to the sue of Ms. Sonia Gandhi’s picture in the publicity material. The grand alliance members submitted a formal complaint to the election commission on the matter. The EC while assuring them that they would look into the matter observed that the election code of conduct was not in place currently.
