A group of “devotees” have resorted to consumption of alcohol and meat in the Temple resort of Tirumala. Tirumala is considered the holiest of all holy shrines among the believers of Lord Venkateswara. These “devotees” came to Tirumala and checked into a guest house on the seven hills. They were apparently recommended by Aadikesavulu Naidu. When the media got wind of their activities and beamed pictures of the leftover wine bottles and half consumed meat dishes, there was huge uproar among the devotees. The PRP, TRS and the TDP too got into the act and raised slogans against Aadikesavulu Naidu. For good measure, they have demanded his immediate resignation from the TTD. The TTD on part has slipped into an embarrassing silence and has refused to comment on the issue save for the statutory statement that the “guilty will be punished.” The BJP too got into the act saying that this Congress government has in one way or another continuously tried to tarnish the image of the Tirumala temple.
